I can’t believe it’s been over a month since Colton and I welcomed Scottie into our lives! Who knew a month could fly by so quickly?! The month before giving birth felt like the longest month of my life because we were so excited to meet her and now I’m just wishing that time would slow down.

Scottie arrived fashionably late, exactly one week after her due date. There are no words to describe the relief I felt hearing that first cry and the love I felt when I finally got to hold her in my arms after carrying her inside me for nine months.

Prior to giving birth, I’d had so many mothers tell me that the love I’d feel when meeting her would be an indescribable and whole new kind of love, but what I didn’t know was just how much more I’d grow to love her after that first meeting.

I’ve loved really getting to know her these past few weeks. Knowing the difference between her hungry cry from her gassy cry from her tired cry from her I’m just crying to cry, cry. Knowing the adorable scrunchy nosed face she makes when she knows it’s time to eat. Knowing that she is the noisiest sleeper ever…or maybe I’m just the lightest sleeper ever since becoming a mama. Knowing that bath time is her absolute favorite thing ever. Knowing that sometimes just the sound of my voice can make her smile, which is pretty much the best feeling in the world and melts my heart every. single. time.

Scotlyn was named after her Grandpa Scot, my dad, who passed away in 2012. Even before finding out I was pregnant, Colton and I knew that we wanted to name our first child after him. I came across the name Scotlyn and we both loved it. I loved it even more when I found out the meaning of “Lyn” is leader, which was one of my dad’s defining character traits and one that I hope she embodies. His life motto was to “Get After It!” (you can learn more about him here) and we pray that she does just that each and everyday.

Thank you all so much for your love and support throughout my pregnancy and Scotlyn’s arrival. It truly means so much to us! I’ll be back tomorrow to share more about her first month. 🙂
