Good Afternoon! I hope everyone is having a great week so far. We just got back from a long weekend in San Diego. Well, when I say “just got back,” I mean we got back on Sunday evening. It definitely takes a few extra days to get back into the swing of things with a baby! 😉
It’s been a long while since I’ve given any home updates around here. In fact, I think the last time I showed you my living room was in this Instagram post from 2015! So here we are, looong overdue!
Couch: IKEA
Throw: Nordstrom Rack
Embellished Pillows: Target
Tassel Lumbar Pillow: Target
Oversized White Pillows: HomeGoods
I decided to freshen things up around the living room for Spring and added lots of neutral items where there had been pops of color before. I like having a neutral base (couch, rug, coffee table) so that it’s easy to switch out pillows and all of the little knick knacks from time-to-time.
Coffee Table: Wayfair (ours is the older version, this one is almost identical)
Wood Tray: Target (old, linked to a very similar one)
Coasters: Target
Wood Beads: Target
One thing I should mention about this coffee table is that I bought it a few years before having a baby. I would definitely not recommend it with little ones, as it has sharp edges that we’ve added bumpers to and I know it will have fingerprints all over it constantly when Scottie starts walking. I definitely plan on switching it out for something more practical in the future!
Wicker Basket: Target
Vase: Target
Eucalyptus Stems: Target
Wood Panels: Amazon
Lantern: HomeGoods
Shortly after Colton and I got married (pretty much when we stepped off the plane from our honeymoon) we jumped into some major home renovations and did most of it ourselves. We resurfaced and painted all of the cabinets, put in new countertops in the kitchen, and updated the flooring and all of the light fixtures and hardware throughout the house.
The one thing we didn’t get around to doing which has always been such an eyesore for me was our rock fireplace. Changing it didn’t fit into our budget at the time and as the years have gone by we’ve just decided to leave it as is since this isn’t our forever home.
I finally got so sick of looking at it (before photo here) that I decided to paint it on a whim. I followed these instructions for whitewashing the rocks and then I painted the mantle a bright white to match the trim in our house. I am so happy with the final result and can’t believe I was able to give it such a huge transformation with just a few hundred dollars — and that’s including the price of the decor items!
Rug: Lulu & Georgia
Shelving Unit: IKEA
End Table: Target
Frames above couch: IKEA
Floor Lamp: Amazon
Another inexpensive change that made a big difference was painting the shelving unit against the wall white. I had originally spray painted it gold but got sick of it after a few years and decided to spray paint it white to match everything else in the living room. I still plan on switching out a few of the decor items on the shelves but am loving the way it looks so far!
I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our living room! I linked to everything I could think of, but if I missed something or you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! I’ll be back next week to share more about our trip to San Diego. 🙂
